Getting Your Kids Outside and Active This Winter

Summers coming up, and with the great weather and summer holidays, it’s a great time for your kids to get outside, enjoy the sunshine, and benefit from some physical exercise.

For all parents and kids, the winter can be long and tiring, and the change of season can not come any sooner, but for a few, summer is of little interest for them to get outside and active, and more of a time for them to spend more time in front of the TV or computer.

For parents who are desperate to get their kids outside and enjoying the fresh air, here is a list of tips to ensure they remain active during the hotter months:

♣    Set up a swing set or play equipment for younger children.
♣    Buy a set of soccer goals, a basketball ring, volleyball net or skate ramp for older children. Kids will be more likely to go outside if they can engage in an activity they enjoy.
♣    Take family bicycle rides or walks together. Encourage outdoor activities by setting a good example.
♣    Plan a scavenger hunt for your children and their friends. Send them around the neighborhood looking for various outdoor things.
♣    Sign your kids up for a camp where they can explore the outdoors and participate in outside activities. This introduction may foster an appreciation for being outside.
♣    Limit the amount of time they are allowed to spend watching television or playing video games. Without these distractions, they will want to get outside to play.
♣    Get a backyard cricket set – every kids favourite ‘all ages’ sport.
♣    Go swimming!!!
