The Adventures of Pinnochio

The classic story of Pinocchio is simple. A young boy who lies and as a result, his nose grows bigger, punishing him in a humorous way.

The story of the young boy Pinocchio was told for the first time in the 1883 novel titled: The Adventures of Pinocchio.

The book was written by Carlo Collodi who was a famous children’s writer in Italy.

Since the fist tale was told of the young lying child whose nose continued to grow, the adventures of Pinocchio have been told in many differing tales, and his character has since appeared in many adaptations of that story and others.

Carved from a piece of pine by a woodcarver named Geppetto in a small Italian village, he was created as a wooden puppet, but dreamt of becoming a real boy.

The name Pinocchio is a Tuscan word meaning “pine nut” a compound of Italian pino meaning “pine” and occhio meaning “eye”.

The success of the story eventually peaked in the 20th century when a feature film was made in his name.

Then came the cartoon version of the character, then the kids toys, and before you knew it Pinocchio was everywhere you looked!

There is no doubting the act that the story of Pinocchio is a classic tale that will continue to stand the test of time, and apart from being a good story, there is a great message wedged between the plot: not to lie…
